The world seems to be broken up into two kinds of people - those who know about the Guggenheim in Bilbao and those who don't.
The second group have trouble understanding my reasons for coming here, some don't even know where Bilbao is, some never considered going to Spain for anything but a beach holiday and none of them can understand why I would want to go all the way to a place merely to see an art musuem.
They get all the more confused when I tell them that I don't even want to see the art, I only want to see the building...
Before I'd even found my hotel I managed to find some time to worship at the temple of Frank Gehry, later in the evening I went back to see how it looked under the night sky and this morning I even went inside!
I myself did think it a little odd that I came here to see a building but my doubts have been washed away, the building is amazing, it's like Uluru in Australia, it changes colours as different light falls on it, silver, gold and many hues between the two.
It's smooth and pointy, all together and at once, it shouldn't work, it's a mess of curves and angles jumbled together and it's beautiful.
It reminds me of Gaudi, especially Casa Battlo where the floors are the only flat surfaces you can see, everywhere else, all there is are gorgeous curves.
All this talking makes me want to go back for another look....
